PUBG Squad Guide

Best habit

Short, specific callouts.

Real advantage

Trading damage, not four people shooting.

Common loss

Reviving in the open with no smoke.

A squad is not four solo players sharing a map marker. The teams that win consistently do a small number of boring things well: they describe what they see in the same words, they shoot in an order rather than all at once, and they reset together instead of trickling into a lost fight one at a time.

Callouts Beat Reflexes

Most squad fights are lost to bad information, not bad aim. A useful call has a direction, a distance and a state: "two, north-east, one hundred, behind the rock, one knocked" tells everyone what to do. "Over there, shooting me" tells nobody anything. Agree on compass directions rather than left and right, because left depends on which way each player is facing.

Trade, Do Not Swarm

The actual squad advantage is the trade: when one player takes damage, the next one punishes the opponent who exposed themselves to deal it. That needs staggering, not simultaneity. If all four push at once nobody is left to answer when the first goes down. Two engage, two cover, and the covering pair should be looking at different angles.

Layer Your Utility

Throwables are far stronger in a squad because they can be combined. Smoke to break line of sight, stun into the entry, frag onto the cover they will fall back to. The mistake is four players each carrying one smoke and no plan — utility works when it arrives in sequence, and somebody has to say which piece goes first.

Revive Under Cover, Not Under Pressure

Picking someone up in the open with no smoke is the most common way a squad turns one death into three. Smoke first, then revive, and only if the person who knocked your teammate has been located or blocked. If neither is true, the correct move is often to break contact, reset and come back — a downed teammate is recoverable, a wiped squad is not.

Split Loot So Everyone Is Equipped

A squad where one player has a Level 3 vest and three have nothing is a squad with one fighter. Call spare armour and meds out loud, and hand over the Level 3 helmet rather than stacking a second one in your bag. Backpack capacity matters here too: Level 1 holds 170, Level 3 holds 270, and the player carrying team utility should have the biggest bag.

Rotate as One Vehicle

Four-seat vehicles like the UAZ and Dacia 1300 exist for a reason. Splitting across two bikes turns one rotation into two arrivals, which is two separate fights against a squad that stayed together. Park out of sight, stop short of the position you intend to hold, and get out together.

Reset Together

When a fight goes wrong the instinct is for each player to fix it individually, which produces exactly the trickle that loses squads. Call the reset explicitly, name a direction, and go at the same time. A squad that leaves a bad fight intact usually gets a better one two minutes later.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good PUBG callout?

Direction, distance and state, in that order — for example "two, north-east, one hundred, behind the rock, one knocked". Use compass directions rather than left and right, because left depends on which way each player happens to be facing.

How should a squad push a building?

In sequence, not together. Smoke to cut line of sight, a stun into the entry, then two players in while two hold outside angles. Pushing all four at once leaves nobody to trade when the first player goes down.

When should we revive a knocked teammate?

After smoke, and only once the player who knocked them has been located or blocked. Reviving in the open with no cover is the most common way one death becomes three. If neither condition is met, break contact and reset.

How should squads split loot?

Out loud and immediately. Spare armour, helmets and meds should go to whoever lacks them rather than stacking in one bag, and the player carrying team utility should hold the largest backpack — 270 capacity at Level 3 against 170 at Level 1.
